The 5008 outperforms the Ford S-Max and Volkswagen Touran to emerge as WhatCar?'s winner in a group test of smaller-engined MPVs. Each contender uses a 1.6-litre diesel unit - the Peugeot tested was the 1.6 HDi 112 Sport.
In driving character, the 5008 is praised for being more flexible than the Ford "because you don't have to focus so hard on keeping the engine in its ideal rev range to make decent progress". It is deemed "composed" in bends and "slightly more nimble around town, thanks to its smaller dimensions and lighter steering" compared to the S-Max.
In terms of delivering a family-friendly interior, the Peugeot is commended for providing Isofix child seat mounts on all three middle row seats. It is also top-rated for having the most comfortable third-row seats "for shorter adults and children".
"The 5008 also provides the best access to the third row because it's the only one with outer middle row seats that fold and slide right out of the way," the report explains, going on to say that it also has the easiest system for folding the third row away.
Once again the 5008 beats its rivals on list prices, undercutting the Ford and Volkswagen by up to £1,800. It's also commended as the best company car choice of three in terms of monthly contract hire costs and BIK tax charges.
